The swimmer in the Red Cap was inspired by the swimmers you see at outdoor sea baths. I found this figure, she is beautiful, strong, and seems efficient, yet she is also calm, self reflective and contemplative as she prepares herself for her swim. As she put her swimming goggles on, she thinks about the time she has available and the laps she needs to complete.
Created for a new series called “When Summer Comes”, capturing the freedom, longing and anticipation of summer. The “ When Summer Comes” series explores the gestures and stances of people. And while this painting is a realistic figurative work, the lines are quite blurred, the details are sketchy. She could be any of us – perhaps she is like someone you know.
